Small Bowel Perforation caused by Ascariasis Infestation : a Case Report 6 6 - - - - - - - - . - . - 0 . - . - 0 .

ABSTRACT: Ascariasis is one of the most commonhelminthic infections worldwide with increased prevalence in tropical and developing countries like the Philippines. It can be asymptomatic or can present with symptoms of acute abdomen. Perforation and torsion with gangrene are its very rare fatal complications but an important cause of mortality in children. We report a case of 6 years - old male presenting with abdominal pain an intestinal gangrene with perforation caused by infestation of asdcariasis lumbbricoides. Although ascariasis is very rare in developed countries, clinicians should consider this potentially dangerous, yet treatable, infection in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen.
