ABSTRACT: The study focused on the potential of Hyrdrilla verticillata as a biosorbent of nickel nitrate and the changes it occurred on its leaf external morphology. Hydrilla was acquired from U.P. Diliman. The test plant was subjected to four concentration of nickel nitrate with three replicates. Exposure was done for 16 hours. Before and after the experimentation, the plant was weighed and mounted as a temporary wet mount. The initial and final results were compared to account for the possible changes. Photomicroscope was used to observed its leaf external morphology. With the interval of 2 hours, 20 ml of each of the sample were taken and subjected to AAS analysis to measure the rate of absorbance of Hydrilla on nickel nitrate. Decrease in wet weight and chlorosiswere observed based on the results of the experimentation. Based on recorded data, as the concentration of nickel nitrate increases, the weight of Hydrilla decreases and chloroplast disintegrates.
