ABSTRACT: This research was done to determine the antigenotoxic potential of Virgin Coconut Oil against the genotoxin tetracycline on the bone marrow cells of white mice (Mus musculus). Micronucleus test developed by Schmidt was the protocol used by counting the formation of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes against the normal polychromatic erythrocytes. Twenty-four healthy white mice were used as the test animals. The test system composed of tetracycline, positive control and the virgen coconut oil that were administered by Intraperitoneal and by oral gavage. The treatments were given twenty-four (24) hours apart. The mice were sacrificed by cervical disclocation 6 hours after last administration. The femurs were dissected and the bone marrow flushed, centrifuged and smeared. The formation of micronucleus were counted in the well spread and undamaged regions of the spread and undamaged regions of the prepared slides. Results of the study show that Virgen Coconut Oil which was administered for a week showed the best antigenotoxic potential. It is followed by the positive control group and the virgin coconut oil administered for a day. There is no significant difference when the virgin coconut oil was administered in different time interval.
