ABSTRACT: One of the most distinguishable practice Filipinos have was their unique way of calling someone's attention. Instead of calling them in their names or saying hey, Filipinos often used the term psst. This study aims to determine the reason behind why Filipinos use psst to call someone's attention. The researchers conducted an interview with thirty Filipinos from different age group (young adulthood, middle age and late adulthood). The participants were randomly interviewed from specific places in Manila. After gathering and analysing the data, the researchers found out that Filipinos use psst to call someone's attention especially when they didn't know the name of the person they were calling and for the reason that the sound produce by psst is easier to notice.
