ABSTRACT: The research entitled Correlation of Music Preference and Depression among Filipino College Students is aimed into identifying relationship for what music or genre the common youth now is listening to and if listening to such music genre causes or is related to depression. Music which is ever changing has been part of an individual's life since their birth and has helped them in expressing music. Depression however is a serious condition that most of us experience one way or another for a brief or prolonged time which can be domant or active but is usually covert to a person experiencing it. The researcher is convinced that there is a link between Music Preference and Depression and that listening to a specific genre more would assume that the listener have Depression. The research was conducted in the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and among its respondents where students from the College of Science 2nd and 3rd year Psychology students. The research was done by the use questionnaires composed of Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) as well as the Short Test of Music Preference (STOMP) in where the results of both test where correlated by the use of Pearson's R Correlation and the results where then measured to find if there is correlation among the Music Preference and Depression. Based on the results there has been a correlation between all music genres and the level of depression for Mild Mood Disturbance which rejects the Ho of the study.
