ABSTRACT: Students who havethe talent and passion for writing are given an opportunity to express themselves through the implementation of Republic Act No. 7079, an act providing for the Development and Promotion of Campus Journalism and for other purposes. Campus Journalism is not just an outlet for expression but it improves one's ability and skills, and raise social awareness among the students. Bernardino (2007) avers that Campus Journalism is a useful tool in improving the student's ability to express themselves and develop critical thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the status of the implementation of Campus Journalism at Manuel A. Roxas High School. Spedifically, the study sought to answer the following question: 1. What are the qualifications of: 1.1. Student journbalists, and 1.2. Teacher advisers in Campus Journalism? 2. How consistent is the system of the student publication in terms of: 2.1. Financing, 2.2. Publication, and 2.3. Activities to develop the writing skills of the respondents? 3. To what extent does the implementation of Campus Journalism Act benefit the: 3.1. Students, 3.2. Teachers, and 3.3. School? This study utilized the descriptive design which focuses on the status of the implementation of Campus Journalism. A modified survey questionnaire was administered at Manuel A. Roxas High School with a total of 32 student journalists as respondents and the teacher adviser: Finally, afterwards it was collected, tallied, computed and interpreted by by the researchers. The results of the analysis were presented in a total of five (5) tables. The data were gathered and computed thru the Likert scale. The results were ranked according to the highest to lowest frequency. The statistical tools employed in the study were the mean, frequency and ranking. Campus journalism students, and staff or admninistered which is a great personal qualification for a student journalist. More so, as to academic requirement, active involvement in writing competitions, trainings, and practice is a good qualification for a student journalist. Financial support is aligned with the R.A. 7079 where the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the school administration is concerned with the school department itself as responsible for financing the program although there are also a few contributions from other external sources. Campus Journalism is mainly focused with the school to inform the students, school administration, and staff about the issues that may concern them locally which serves the purpose of student publication to meet the needs and interests of the students. Likewise, lectures are the most common activity that campus jourbnalism students attend aside from comnpetitions. This can develop students to enhance their skills even in National Competitions. Though press conferences and seminars are not always available, this can also serve as part of the training for them. Being a campus journalism student really develops writing skills while extracurricular points are the least beneficial. Moreover, the teacher adviser of campus journalism gets additional knowledge and opportunity from the subject though it may not always mean an opportunity nfor professional growth and promotion. The school is always proviledge by producing skilled and talented students as pride and it is a treasure for a school to produce great young minds. This may be said to be an implied accomplishment of R.A. 7079 in their purpose to promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative thinking, as well as developing moral character and personal discipline in the Filipino youth.
