ABSTRACT: The Philippines is rich in cultural heritage. It can be ssen with the different means of transportation available in the country aside from automobiles. The country's cultural identity can be reflected in horse drawn carriages locally known as kalesa. They are an important piece in the Filipino identity. In line with this, this study entitled The Kalesa as a Cultural Icon of Manila, generally aimed to determine aimed to determine the roles of kalesa in promoting the country's culture, the ways that the aesthetic beauty of the carriage represent the country and the possible future of kalesa in Manila. Four persons involved in the kalesa industry were included in the study through a purposive sampling technique. Descriptive method was used in gathering the data. Face to face interviews were also used. The data gathered by were analyzed with the McNamara Six Point Factors. A coffee table book is the end result of the study that features the colorful and underappreciated beauty of kalesa as part of the rich cultural repository of the country.
