ABSTRACT: This study was conducted to measure the effectiveness of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the degradation of cooking oil and diesel oil. Cooking oil and diesel oil were substrates used to test the effectiveness of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in oil degradation. The media were prepared in which the only carbon source was the oil. Degradation potential was evaluated in terms of spectrophotometric determination, percent oil conversion, and infrared spectroscopy. There was a significant difference in the microbial growth curve of Pseudomonas aeruginosa using cooking oil and diesel oil and in the percent oil conversion. Cooking has higher absorbance than diesel oil. The infrared spectroscopy that was obtained showed that there was a slight difference in the wavelengths of the inoculated and uninoculated media but there was no difference in the functional groups of the inoculated and uninoculated media.
