ABSTRACT: Computer is a technological aid in gathering information, storage, retrieval processing and in making decisions. Computers can help in various aspects of clinical and nursing services. As technology advances in healthcare it provides the chance for more direct patient care by shortening the length of time for documentation and assist to patient data quickly. Computer systems are developing to become more users friendly. Although the present system has limited features, the promise seems to be closer. The Computerized Patient Service Requests is a form of Electronic Health Record with the purpose of improving the over-all quality and efficiency of its service delivery. The study determined the impact of CPSR on rendering nursing care to the patients with end view of developing a nursing informatics framework. This was conducted from July 2007-March 2008. This study utilized the simple random sampling in choosing the respondents, with the sample size of 117 nurses. The tool is a self-structured questionnaire; consist of three parts, the extent of impact on rendering nursing care, level of attitude and problems encountered. The statistical treatments used were the weighted mean and Spearman Rank Correlation Test. The results revealed that, Computerized Patient Service Requests has been noted to improve promptness, patient safety and documentation on rendering patient care to a greater extent. There is a very high levels of attitudes among nurses in terms of their willingness and participativeness in improving the system. They are very willing and locking forward to participate in programs that will further improve the system. It also sows that there is a significant relationship between the extent of impact and level of attitudes of nurses in rendering nursing care as shown in the result of correlation coefficient of 0.34 and testing the significance of /r/ which is 3.66953. The problems encountered by nurses in utilization of the system which is considered a big problem are on hardware. It affects the other elements of nursing informatics such as software, dataware and peopleware. On the basis of the findings and conclusions, the researcher recommends that nursing informatics be part of the core subject in the nursing curriculum to manage and communicate data. The proposed nursing informatics framework and the manual are recommended to help health care providers including the physicians, staff nurses, clerks and personnel involved in the implementation of the program to develop and manage service requests in health care facilities in an efficient and effective manner. Since nurses are the main users of CPSR and they have high level attitudes in the utilization of the system, enhancing its implementation will maximize its use and thereby impact on rendering nursing care.
