ABSTRACT: This study aimed to establish the relationship between the academic performance of the nursing student and the teaching-learning process of nurse educators... The academic performance of the nursing students in the theoretical and clinical areas were determined by the grade point average in the six nursing subjects namely; Primary Health Care 1 and 2, Nursing Care Management 100,101, 102, 103 and 104. While the summative test was were the result of a 50-item questions in the following areas; Fundamentals of Nursing; Community Health Nursing, Maternal and Child Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing. The teaching-learning process measured the teaching competencies of the nurse educator utilizing the evaluation checklist adapted from the book authored by Francisco Zulueta. The nurse educator was evaluated in terms of the mastery of the subject matter, teaching skills and classroom management and evaluation skills. The descriptive correlation design was utilized in the study. The researcher adapted purposive sampling. The respondents were 102 level IV nursing students enrolled at Calamba Doctor's College during the 1st semester of School Year 2008-2009 and have taken Primary Health Care 1 in the said institution. The data gathered were treated using appropriate statistical tool such as frequency distribution percentage, statistical weighted mean and chi-square test of independence. The findings of the study showed that among the 102 level IV nursing students, their academic performance in theoretical area and the summative test as described by the average mean score was poor while they got satisfactory level in the clinical area. The evaluation of the students in the teaching-learning process of the nurse educator revealed that the mastery of the subject matter got the highest general mean of 4.36 interpreted as adequate followed by the teaching skills with a general mean average of 4.28, while the classroom management and evaluation skills got the general mean average of 4.22 both interpreted as adequate. The findings showed significant relationship between the academic performance of the nursing students and the teaching-learning process in all aspects except that the classroom management which has no significant relationship with the academic performance of the students in the clinical area.
