ABSTRACT: The study entitled Factors Affecting the Attitudes and Behaviors of Ward Nurses in Tondo Medical Center aims to determine the factors affecting the attitude and behavior of staff nurses in charity and pay ward of Tondo Medical Center (TMC). Specifically, it seeks to answer whether there is a significant relationship between the attitudes and behaviors of ward nurses in TMC; whether there a significant relationship between the attitudes of ward nurses in TMC and its factors in terms of the barrier factors, which are patient's behavior, physical strain, and hospital resources, and the motivational factors, which are experience, incentive, and nobility of profession; and whether there a significant relationship between the behavior of ward nurses in TMC and its factors, which are patient's behavior, physical strain, and hospital resources, and the motivational factors, which are experience, incentive, and nobility of profession. The researchers only focused on the assessment and evaluation of the attitudes and behaviors of nurses. The respondents were employed nurses from the general wards such as Pedia, Medicine, Surgery, OB, EENT and Pay wards in TMC. Wherein, the respondents have at least one year of experience in TMC. Every study conducted and worked upon has its own limitations. This study is no exception. Inadequate time and financial resources, and the number of respondents are the hindrances for the ultimate success and effectiveness of this study. After a comprehensive data gathering and analysis, the researchers therefore concluded that attitude doesn't necessarily translate to behavior and vice versa. There are factors that have significant effect on the attitude but not on the behavior. Despite these contributing factors that could affect the nurses attitude, still, nurses control their behaviors in order to fulfill their responsibilities and live by the nursing ethics. The researcher further concluded that nurses attitudes are affected by the barrier factors such as patient's behavior, physical strain and hospital resources. The patient's behaviors give negative impact on the part of the nurse in terms perceiving nursing strategies and skills. Physical strain in connection with heavy work assignment results to their lessened eagerness in dealing with people and work. Whereas, hospital resources contributes to a nurses indistinct plan of care. Moreover, nurses behaviors are influenced by the barrier factor particularly, physical strain. Stress and fatigue greatly influence the nurses physical, emotional, mental as well as his of her social aspects in such a way that work performance is compromised. Based from the results and conclusion, the researchers suggested that nurses must be aware of their actions and attitudes so that in rendering interventions, they will know whether necessary standards of care are met. Evaluation of oneself is of greater concern in order to be familiarized with one's strengths and weakness. Likewise, they should instill the factors that are presented in the study to be able to fabricate strategies and adapt with it.c The researchers highly recommend to the future researchers a more extensive and vast study to be able to include other aspects that can further enhance the present study. The future researchers may include the following recommendations but not limited to, additional factors and attitudes and behaviors, a large number of respondents, a comparison with other research locale, as well as an output other than awareness and evaluation of the nurses attitudes and behaviors in relation with other contributing factors. And lastly, the researchers propose possession of added efforts and perseverance to be able to come up with a more comprehensive and didactic study.
