ABSTRACT: The study aimed to determine the postmenopausal responses of Filipino women and use to it as a basis for developing a Women's Health Program. Specifically, the study attempted to answer the following questions: First, to determine the profile of menopausal women in terms of occupation and the number of years since the last menstruation. Secondly, to determine the quality of life of women undergoing post menopausal stage in the following areas: occupational, health, emotional and sexual. Third, to determine the extent on how menopausal women exhibit the following responses: depressed mood, somatic symptoms, vasamotor symptoms, anxiety/fears, sexual behavior, sleep problems, menstrual symptoms, memory/contraception and attractiveness. The study tested the hypothesis of no significant relationship between the profile variables and menopausal responses, between the profile variables and the quality of life, and between the quality of life and response to menopausal symptoms. The descriptive correlational type of research was used and considered most appropriate for the study since it explored the correlates of menopausal responses and the quality of life of menopausal women. One hundred fifty (150) menopausal women aged 45-60 years old with at least more than one year since the last menstruation but not more than 10 years participated in the study. The researcher used the Women's Health Questionnaire developed by Myra Hunter and the Utian Quality Life Scale by Wuff H. Utian as the main instrument for data collection. Mean, eta-squared and Pearson r were the statistical tools used in data analysis. Filipino women on their menopause are unemployed and had menopause for 1-2 years. These profile characteristics place menopausal women vulnerable to menopausal symptoms and low quality of life. Filipino women on their menopause have moderate quality of life in terms of occupational, health, emotional, and sexual aspects. Also, Filipino women on their menopause sometimes exhibit depressed mood, somatic symptoms, vasamotor, anxiety/fears, sexual behavior, sleep problems, menstrual symptoms, poor memory/concentration and low level of attractiveness. Absence of employment tends to make menopausal women depressed and lessens their sexual activities. The same is true with number of years from the last menstruation. At the post-menopausal period more symptoms are experienced. Furthermore, one's view of employment status significantly influence health and sexual orientations and significant variations are noted in the relationships between quality of life and menopausal responses among the respondents. The study strongly recommends the participation of women in socio-civic and livelihood activities, development of women's health program designed to improve occupational and sexual quality of life, and strengthening women's health programs through medical aid packages, insurances, screening, and other benefits.
