ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to assess if there is a significant relationship between Nutritional Status, in terms of Body Mass Index (BMI), and Academic Performance of school-aged children in Balagtas Elementary School, S.Y. 2011-2012. Two hundred eighty seven (287) students served as the respondents of the study. They were composed of one hundred forty (140) Grade 5 students and one hundred forty-seven (147) Grade 6 students of the said school. The researchers obtained their height and weight for BMI computation to determine their Nutritional Status. Academic Performance was then based on the average of the students first and second quarter grades. Data acquired was analyzed and showed that there is a significant and positive relationship between Nutritional Status and Academic Performance. Majority of the respondents were malnourished, as they were classified under underweight and obese. Statistics also showed that these two classifications got the lowest mean Academic Performance, suggesting that nutritional intake of school aged children can affect their educational status.
