ABSTRACT: Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), one of the most prevalent musculosketal disorders, is manifested by trigger points that lead to tenderness, local twitch response, referred pain, and painful limitation of range of motion (ROM), impending one's productivity. Various interventions for MPS include pharmacological treatments, acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), stretching exercise, ultrasound therapy, and relaxation techniques. Myofascial Release (MFR) is a soft tissue mobilization technique used to inactivate trigger points between layers of fascial tissue. Positional Release Technique (PRT) is a passive body positioning used to elicit immediate and prolonged reductions in tenderness at a trigger points. This study tested the effectiveness of Myofascial Release (MFR) and Positional Release Technique (PRT) compared to MFR alone in reducing MPS symptoms such as, pain limitation of motion, and difficulty in activities of daily living. Thirty participants, purposively selected, aged 18-40 years, were included in the study. ANNOVA, T-test, and Cohen's D using SPSS were used to analyze the data. Results revealed that MFR with PRT and MFR alone both significantly reduced symptoms in upper trapezius of the 30 participants. However, MFR with PRT resulted to be more effective in alleviating MPS symptoms as to pain, limitation of motion and improvement of neck function. Keywords : Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS), Myofascial Release (MFR), Positional Release Technique (PRT), Upper Trapezius
