Motorcycle is becoming a popular mode of transportation in the Philippines due to ease in maneuverability especially through heavy traffic, gas mileage efficiency and economy, and cheap maintenance are some of the reasons why more people prefer to use motorcycle over cars and public transport. However, there has also been an increase in the number of motorcycle accidents. Motorcyclists sustain injuries such as scratches, bruises, fractures and head traumas from motorcycle accidents. The study aims to assess the effect of helmet use intervention programs done by the local government of Marikina City on motorcyclists who met accidents in Marikina from January 2010 to September 2010. Specifically, this study aims to identify the intervention programs done by the local government of Marikina City to increase helmet use among motorcyclist; describe motorcycle accident victims in Marikina from January 2010 to September 2010 in terms of sex, age, alcohol use, driver error, location of injury and helmet use; determine the prevalence of helemt use among motorcyclists who met accidents in Marikina City from January 2010-September 2010; compare the prevalence of helmet use among motorcyclists who met accidents in Marikina City from January 2010 to September 2010; compare the prevalence of head injuries among motorcyclists who met accidents in Marikina City during January 2008-October 2008 and that during January 2010-September 2010 using z-test for two proportions. Based on the results gathered, there was a stricter implementation as well as amendments of current laws, Government bodies that were responsible for these interventions were the City Transportation Management and Development Office (CTMDO) of the Marikina City Hall and the Philippine National Police (PNP) together with the Barangay Tanods of the 14 different barangays in Marikina.
