This study was conducted to determine the needs and aspirations of the gifted students in the IECG (International Education Center for the Gifted) at the Hoseo University, Cheon-an City, South Korea with the aim of coming up with an enriched curriculum that will challenge the learners and help them develop to the fullest. The results of the study were used as basis for the development of instructional materials, teaching methods, and programs suited to their level. Specifically, the study sought answers to the following problems: 1. What are the identified traits of gifted Korean students based on the following? a. General Mental Ability b. Psychometric Assessment c. Knowledge of Practical and Social Issues d. Academic Performance 2. What are the characteristics of the respondents in terms of? a. Language Intelligence b. Logical/ Interpersonal Skill c. Communication Skill d. Leadership Skill e. Creativity f. Debating Skill 3. What are the aspirations of the gifted and talented among the following? a. Political Aspiration b. Diplomatic Aspiration c. Economic Aspiration d. Social Aspiration f. Educational Aspiration 4. Is there a significant relationship between the identified traits and the characteristics of the respondents? 5. Is there a significant relationship between the characteristics and aspiration of the respondents? 6. Based on the finding of this study, what curricular enhancement may be proposed? The following hypotheses were advanced and tested at 0.5 level of significance: There is no significant relationship between the identified traits and the characteristics of the respondents. There is no significant relationship between the characteristics and the aspirations of the respondents The study utilized the descriptive method of research. The respondents of this study consisted of 160 students of IECG (International Education Center for the Gifted), in Hoseo University, Cheonan City, South Korea. No sampling was used because all the students who were enrolled in the years 2009-2010 were involved. The program was started in 2009 with 80 pupils and continued in 2010 with another 80. The study covered 100% of the students in the grade levels selected or a total of 160. Data management and statistical analysis were done using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 9. Frequencies, weighted means, and correlation coefficients were generated using SPSS. The significant findings of the study are as follows: 1. There is significant relationship between the identified traits and the characteristics of the respondents. Correlated with the identified traits were characteristics of the respondents as regards: a. Language intelligence b. Interpersonal intelligence c. Logical intelligence d. Communication skill e. Leadership skill f. Creative skill g. Debating skill 2. There is significant relationship between the characteristics and the aspirations of the respondents as regards: a. Politics b. Diplomatic c. Economic d. Social e. Cultural and f. Educational aspirations This researcher has come to the conclusion that the students identified their characteristics and aspirations and showed great interest in social issues and in studying the lives of famous men and women they would like to follow. These gifted students have special characteristics and potentials in the different fields. They have above average intelligence. The average general mental ability of all the respondents is 138.86, which is higher compared to normal students. They manifested highest interests along the development of language, leadership, creativity and debating skills. They have high aspirations for the future and showed great interest in becoming diplomats, political leaders and teachers. To enhance the characteristics and to meet the aspirations of the students, an enriched curriculum for the gifted students was proposed. Teacher institutions should also upgrade their offerings to prepare would-be teachers for teaching the gifted along the skills and intelligence as identified by this study.
