ABSTRACT: The study aims to determine the viability of outsourcing and availing of the services of an Internet Data Center (IDC) for the organization under study. It focuses on the assessment of the requirements of the government organization under study and determines the facilities / capabilities/ functionalities of the IDC. The study reveals that computing resources and needs of the government organization under study have dynamically changed with the changes in Information Technology, from stand-alone to web-based and client-server computing today. Aside from the textual information being maintained and processed by the organization's IT group, it also processes and maintains graphical, voice and video information. Furthermore, a tight IT security is very important aspect of the e-business solution of the organization under study. Without tight security, in-house business-critical data/ information such as various infrastructure projects, vital events, international cooperation and other classified business data might be compromised. The effects of a security breach or loss of the said data/information can result in the severity of million pesos of data and substantial loss in business and reputation of the organization under study. The study also covers technical, operational and economic viabilities of outsourcing the requirements of the major information services to an Internet Data Center (IDC). The researcher concludes that the outsourcing of the Internet Data Center services for the government organization under study is technically and operationally feasible but not economically feasible for today's economic condition of the government organization under study.
