To present a descriptive cross-sectional study regarding the relationship of birth interval with nutritional status using height-for-age anthropometric measurement. This is a cross-sectional study of three (3) to six (6) year old children from Brgy. Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila. Measurement of the height was performed and the children's date of birth was taken. The interval between the birth of the older sibling and the subject's date of birth were then calculated. Odds ratio was compared for the relationship of birth interval and nutritional status. A total of 54 subjects were evaluated. Birth intervals were classified into two categories: those <2 years interval and those >2 years interval. Anthropometric data collected from the respondents indicate that 64.81% were well-nourished and 35.19% were malnourished among the subjects. For those birth interval is <2 years, 59% were well-nourished and 41% were malnourished. Moreover, for children whose birth interval is > 2 years, 68.75% were well-nourished and 31.25% were malnourished. The results showed that there were more children with well-nourished status than those with malnourished status and this is observed in all age levels. Furthermore, the odds ratio value of 1.52 indicates that it is more likely that the children with the birth interval of <2 years will be malnourished. These show that there is a difference between the nutritional status of the children belonging to the birth interval of <2 years and > 2 years. However, the interval estimate tells that the relationship is not significant. There is an association between birth interval and nutritional status but the relationship is not significant.
