History AR: Step into the lives of Filipino heroes using augmented reality with enhanced image recognition using Yolov8 - Capstone Project: (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) - Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 2025
ABSTRACT: Many Filipinos are unaware or lack of sufficient knowledge about their national heroes, often due to limited access to comprehensive educational resources and the lack of emphasis on their historical significance. The development of an application called History AR will help in addressing this problem. This study introduces an offline-capable Android application that will enables the user to explore the Lives of Filipino National Heroes through Augmented Reality with the use of an advanced image recognition powered by Yolov8. The application operates without relying on predefined cards that make this different from the other application. Additionally, this includes a Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature that transforms written content into spoken words in both English and Filipino. This feature accommodates the users with varying reading abilities, language preferences, and learning styles. Overall, the primary objective of the History AR application has been accomplished. This initiative strives to foster a stronger bond with Filipino ancestry by converting history education into an interactive experience through History AR.
