This strategic management paper embodies the research work of six (6) students who collaborated in partially fulfilling the requirements of their strategic management paper under the tutelage of Professor Heherson Marayag. He has been instrumental in molding the know-how of these students to be able to execute such research.
This paper focuses on Security Bank Corporation (SBC), a universal and private domestic bank with its head office on Ayala Avenue, Makati City. It is reputed to be the 9th biggest bank in terms od Total Assets in the country as of September 30, 2021, from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) website. SBC has been instrumental in nation-building and economic progress.
The researchers have provided a discussion on SBC’s background to appreciate it versus the industry. As reflected in its logo, values, vision, and mission, its culture reflects the rich history and contribution of SBC to the banking industry. Its cadre of management team leaders contributes to the professional and results orientation that brought SBC to its stellar status.
An external environmental analysis gives an in-depth discussion of the general and economic forecasts on the Philippine Banking System (PBS). The political climate and recent developments in the government enrich the sphere in which PBS operates. The impact of technology, even from a global perspective, also affects the performance and reputation of banks that make up the system.
An internal environmental analysis focuses on SBC as its capabilities and resources unfold. This analysis is an opportunity for the researchers to dissect information vis-à-vis the position of SBC amongst its counterpart banks.
This paper also has provided an overview of the industry structure wherein we have utilized the framework of Porter’s Five Model. These findings are essential in our strategic planning as we translate each factor into our formulated business strategies. This plays a critical factor in our derived balanced scorecard: Financial Perspective, Customer Perspective, Internal Process Perspective and Learning and Growth Perspective.
The implementation procedures specified in this research are shown in the researchers’ action plans and are aligned with our recommended mission and vision statements and proposed strategic objectives. The researchers have also developed their projections through the financial impression gathered during the research. The researchers have also weighed the different fundamental analyses that led them to their identified strategies.
Concluding this Strategic Management Paper are the researchers’ recommendations that will hopefully patch up or alleviate lapses that have been identified throughout the study.
