ABSTRACT : This paper is an attempt to expand the description and explanation of the 'grammar of text messaging given its code-switched and abbreviated forms using the grammatical rules and word formations as proposed by Schachter and Otanes (1972). The study proposes some hypothetical rules that apply to texting. morphological transformations in the use of proper and personal nouns, deitic and personal pronouns, derived noun formations, adjectival,verbal, adverbial formation including the case of reduplication, revealed a tendency to cut words or phrases according to phonological substitution' during text messaging. The study again demonstrated that the electronic medium in cellular phone use provides an oppotunity for Filipinos to play with language and allows them the flexibility to adjust grammar rules' accordingly.
