ABSTRACT : This study points out actual instances of damage to human, plants, animals and to the environment with the marketing of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) without proper precautionary testing of the products. it also delves into the economics effects of patenting of life that would leave marginal and small time farmers totally dependent on multinational corporations for thier source of seeds. The European Community has paved the way on control of the introduction of GMCs that have not been properly tested for safety. It is only in the underdeveloped countries and the United States 'foremost vendor of GMOs where GMOs are indiscriminately sold at high profits without regard to the safety of humans and the environment. In the Philippines, the agricultural experts should refrain from being exploited by the multinational vendors of GMOs and instead pioneer the development of properly tested GMOs. Such rsearch does not require the expense of billion dollar accelerators nor deep space laboratories. Furthermore, GMO research will help the country compete in a free market world.
