ABSTRACT: This article aims to analyse a new Portuguese online newspaper- Observador- in order to understand changes oin the media, focusing on two main aspects: first, new narrative forms; and second, the ways in which these new forms relate to readers. This online news project was launced in Portugal in May 2014, with a strong professional structure, led by journalists who are highly acknowledged professionals in the Portuguese media. Before its launch , Observador announced:We are digital natives and we will be doing the journalism of today We argue that contemporary journalism recycles old traditions from the early days of journalism, cultivating the relationship of proximity provided by epistolarity, and reinventing agenda setting practices as well ass the gatekeeping function.
