ABSTRACT : Of paramount interest in this study was whether idosyncratic patterns in writing style could be quantitatively identified in decisions penned by the five women justices of the Philippine Supreme Court in 2006. To answer this question, 96 decisions released in january and february 2006 were processed to exclude material not written by the justices themselves (e.g. cross-examination transcripts or quotations of previous rulings.) Univariate and multivariate explorations on the processed data revealed that the frequences of 50 commonly occuring words did not distinguish the justices from one another. However , the same words did not distinguish the justicess from one another. However, the same words set the five justices collectively apart from the two women justices of the U.S. Supreme Court in 2006. when the Philippine justices were analyzed one pair at a time and the analysis was restricted to only those words that separated the pair of justices being compared, decisions published in March 2006 were correctly attributed to their authoring justices most of the time. the results of this tudy suggest that is possible to quantitatively ascribe authors to their writtenworks in the Philippine judicial world.
