505 ## - FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE
Formatted contents note ABSTRACT: The study investigated the phytochemical and hypoglycemic potential of Cyrtochloa fenixii, Cyrtochloa hirsute, Cyrtochloa luzonica, Cyrtochloa major, and Cyrtochloa toppingii, which are endemic to the Philippines, known by their common names Bolo, Baitu, Luzon bikal, Bikal baboy, and Bukawe, respectively. Through phytochemical screening and in vitro hypoglycemic analysis, the study addresses the need for natural remedies in managing diabetes mellitus. The analysis nof secondary metabolites revealed the presence of carbohydrates, flavonoids, phenols and saponins in all plant extracts, suggesting a potential impact on blood glucose control. Notably, presence of phytosterols were observed in all plants except Cyrtochloa luzonica, alkaloisa were found in all plants except Cyrtochloa hirsute and cyrtochloa luzonica, and all species lack glycosides and tannins. The species were ranked based on their concentrations of Total Flavonoid Content (TFC) and Total Phenolic Content (TPC), with Cyrtochloa toppingii having the highest concentration, followed by Cyrtochloa fenixii, Cyrtochloa luzonica, Cyrtochloa major. Among the five species studied, Cyrtochloa toppingii having the highest concentration of flavonoids and phenols showed the highest hypoglycemic activity. Correlation analyses revealed that TFC and TPC directly affect the alpha-amylase inhibition behaviors of plant extracts. In the hypoglycemic properties in terms of their effect on the glucose uptake of yeast cells, moderate and strong positive correlation to TPC and TFC were observed, respectively.
