Summary, etc. ABSTRACT: The study assessed the coping strategies of special education students caregivers and the quality of care they rendered to the children as perceived by themselves. The researchers were motivated because there are many advertisements and informative programs that are being produced in the locale media network which institute as part of its program the knowledge and information regarding special educations student. Also, one of the researchers has a family member who is undergoing special education. The participants of the study were caregivers of children enrolled under Special Education of Legarda Elementary School. No specific profiling was used to choose and categorize the respondents. The statistical treatments used were frequency and percentage distribution, mean analysis, and Pearson's correlation test. Based on the findings of the study, the most commonly used coping strategies among the 53 respondents is the assertive handling of the problem comprising 23%. The next one is the positive approach garnering 22%, followed by seek for social support (22%), wishful thinking (17%) and the least of all, avoidance (16%). Moreover, the category Very Effective quality of care showed the highest distribution in the intervention regarding the movement of the special education student with a total percentage distribution of 37.1%. For the scale Effective, the highest score is shown in the intervention maintaining the body temperature of a child with a total percentage distribution of 56%. For the Scale Fairly Effective, the highest percentage is in the grooming of a child, with a percentage of 28.3%. And for the scale of being Ineffective, the highest percentage of an ineffective intervention is in the Learning and discovery of a special education student with a percentage of 6.3%. In general, there is a significant high correlation between the frequently used coping strategy and the quality of care rendered by the caregivers to the special education students. Therefore, the coping strategies used by the respondents affects the quality of care they give their child in attending to their needs based from the 14 Fundamental Needs of Virginia Henderson. Hence, the researchers may conclude that the better the coping strategy used, the greater the possibility of yielding positive outcomes in the aspects of care and nurture to a child under special education. Thus, with better quality of care, the better promotion of health and development of a child with special needs is certain and secured.
