ABSTRACT: This study determine the current assessment of the Related Learning Experience at the Ospital ng Sampaloc during Second Semester of School Year 2009-2010. It also identified the problems encountered by the Level IV student-nurses, their clinical instructors, and the staff nurses. Results of which could be the basis of a clinical partnership program through a Dedicated Education Unit model between the hospital and the other affiliate nursing schools. The study included 105 student-nurses, 21 clinical instructors, and 54 staff nurses. By employing the mix method of research, data were collected through the use of the RLE Assessment Questionnaire and through a Focus Group Discussion. Weighted mean, Analysis of Variance with Tuckey Kramer were the statistical treatments employed in the presentation and interpretation of the results. The hypothesis was tested using 0.05 level of significance. The study concluded the following: The current status of the RLE as regards quality of supervision of clinical instructors during clinical duty; readiness and capability of the learner; quality of the learning resources both in institutions and communities; adequate number and variety of clientele; adequate number of qualified nursing staff and other personnel; quality of nursing care services; compliance with the required equivalence of fifty one (51 hours) into 1 RLE unit; and ratio of student to clientele based on the objective and the capacity of the student are all Achieved, but utilization of appropriate feedback mechanism and the ratio of student to clientele based on the objectives and the capacity of the student are Almost Achieved. In general, the current status of RLE is Achieved. Based from the FGD, the student nurses, clinical instructors, and staff nurses are experiencing problems in the conduct of the present RLE. These problems are attitudinal, administrative, and practice-orientation-related in nature. Specifically, these are attitude of clinical instructors and staff nurses and doctors acceptance, expectations, and following protocols by the student-nurses, lack of collaboration, lack of patients and cases, administration support on space by the clinical instructors; and student ratio and lack of student orientation by the staff nurses. Also, there are problems on clinical instructor-staff relationship and conflicting schedules and rotation by the instructors and the students; young and inexperienced clinical instructors and outdated and unusable equipment by the students and the staff nurses; and absence of clear policy or rules and regulation by the instructors and the staff nurses; and patients and significant others among the three groups. Among the none variables, only utilization of appropriate feedback mechanism showed no significant differences in the assessment of the three groups of respondents; while the rest showed significant differences. The DEU prepared by the researcher is recommended for implementation based from the findings of the study. |
