This study was conducted to assess the learning outcomes in Health Education using the Tagalog-Manila and English based instruction towards an enhanced implementation of the Mother Tongue Program in the University of the East, Manila. Specifically this study assesses the following four parameters or test components called levels of assessment set by DepEd namely knowledge, understanding, product/ performance and process/ skills correlated with the Pre-test and Post-test and average mean grade in Health Education for the Second (2nd) Grading Period. The Descriptive and Experimental Method were the research design employed. A researcher made questionnaire was validated by experts and its reliability by thirty (30) pupils. The results revealed that the Experimental (Tagalog-Manila) group achieved higher mean scores in the Pre-test based on the four (4) test components than the Control (English) group. There is high significant difference in the Post-test between the pupils exposed to Tagalog-Manila than those exposed to the English instruction. Likewise the Experimental (Tagalog-Manila) group have achieved higher average mean grade in the Second Grading Period in Health Education than those in Control (English) group. There is a high significant difference in the performance of the pupils who belong to the Experimental (Tagalog-Manila) group in all levels of assessment except a slight difference in the Process/ Skills than the Control (English) group counterpart. Based on the results, the pupils taught in their mother tongue learned and achieved more the academic standard set by the K to 12 curriculum in Health Education for Grade 1 than those who were taught in English. A proposed MTB Enhancement Program was made towards a successful implementation of K to 12 Mother Tongue Program. |
