ABSTRACT: There have been several instances in the Philippines throughout the years of fires caused by overheated gadgets or appliances. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, there were 338 fires in Manila’s residential neighborhoods from January to April 2021, with overheated devices or appliances being responsible for 123 of the 338 cases (or 36-39). Various fire protection technologies, including fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire suppression systems or sprinkler systems, have been produced over the years to avert these fire catastrophes. With this in mind, the researchers conducted research on the development of an Arduino-based Smoke and Heart Detector to aid in mitigating or preventing these fire hazards. This device will serve as a preventive device which utilizes the thermal module and smoke detector module MQ2. These modules are designed to detect the presence of smoke in the load, monitor the current temperature in the load to indicate if there is an increase in temperature over time, and provide corresponding light indicators in green, orange, and red, for temperatures <650C and a smoke value <255 ppm, 650C < 850C, and > 850C and a smoke value of >255 ppm, respectively. Additionally, it makes use of a wireless module NRF24L01, which allows wireless communication between microcontrollers and the Wi-Fi module ESP8266, which connects the main controller to the internet via a cloud server to enable control using a designated mobile application. With the application, the user will receive a warming signal, and the application will be able to preemptively cut off the device from the supply if the temperature is discovered to be too high or if the smoke value exceeds 255 ppm. |
