ABSTRACT: STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: This study aims to develop an IoT-Based Anti-Aggression Device with Alarm and Notification and a mobile application for users to access and input necessary information the device needs. Based on the research data, a lot of crimes are reported not just in the Philippines but also in other countries. Regarding this situation, the researchers find a solution that may help the security to solve this problem. The following are the research questions regarding the statement of the problem: 1. Is the developed system able to aid the user in alerting the user’s emergency contact to the situation. 2. Are the uses able to configure the mobile application to add the information being sent and intended emergency contact information? RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: The project S.A.N.D (Safety Alarm Notifier Device) will have two elements. These are the mobile application and the hardware device. In the mobile application, the users can edit personal information like name, age, and gender, and register the emergency contact that will be notified once the device’s button is triggered. The SMS notification will be generated once the user pressed the device’s button. The SMS contents are the personal information, crime specification, and the real-time GPS location of the user. Aside from being a trigger to an SMS notification, the device’s button will also determine the type of crime that needs to be reported. Applied research design is the approach used since the study aims to develop a mobile application and device that will serve as self-defense for the user to fend-off aggressors and scale-down the gravity of what could potentially escalate to a very dangerous and life-threatening situation. There are three types of applied research, namely evaluation research, research and development, and action research. This study applies all of them wherein past and existing information’s are analyzed and utilized to reach informed and optimum decisions, as well as developing new and innovative features and design to improve significance and benefits, and lastly, providing practical solutions to specific problems, which in this study, is the rising number of rape, kidnapping, theft, and abduction case in the Philippines. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS: Based on the results tackled in the previous chapter, the system and device, along with the mobile application, did serve its function to notify the user’s emergency contact of the situation and configure the information being sent with a great functionality score of 94% (3.772 out of 4). S.A.N.D. also achieved a performance efficiency score of 92.75% (3.69 out of 4) and reliability score of 90% (3.598 out of 4), indicating that the device and mobile application’s response and processing times are excellent and that respondents rarely encountered any problems during testing. In terms of usability, compatibility, and portability, S.A.N.D. has achieved 89% )3,5475 out of 4), 93% (3.716 out of 4), and 92% (3.69 out of 4) scores respectively, ensuring that the device and mobile applications are compatible with a variety of mobile devices and is not difficult to set up and use. S.A.N.D. also achieved a score of 92.25% (3.69 out of 4) in security), indicating that the applications is safe and secure as well as easy to use in multiple devices. CONCLUSION: Throughout the development of the S.A.N.D. device, mobile application, and documentation, the researchers learned more about hardware and software development and improved their programming, electronics, and integration skills. The researchers were able to determine the importance and impact of technology and devices on the safety and security of people’s lives through this study. With the S.A.N.D. device and mobile application, users will now be able to have a way to protect themself at all times from the dangers of the outside world. With the benefits of an alarm that will notify nearby surrounding people that the user in danger along with the capability to send crucial information such as their locations to their families as well as specify the exact type of crime the user is experiencing in that situation, they can expect a much faster and more efficient from the authorities To summarize, S.A.N.D. development met all of the research objectives, indicating that the study was effective in developing a device and mobile application capable of sending an SOS message containing the user’s crucial information to their emergency contacts. RECOMMENDATION: Due to the time constraint and lack of funds, the researchers include in this section recommendations for future researchers to improve this study. These are based on the observations of the researchers while testing the mobile application and hardware device and the suggestions of respondents. The following are recommended to be developed or included for the continuation of this study: • The researchers suggest an implementation of real-time location sharing in SAND’s mobile application so that the emergency contact will be updated once notified. • Since this study is just a prototype and no one has the same product here in the Philippines, once this mobile application and device are in public use, it will be great to have machine learning based on the data collected. This prediction system will be based on the highest number of cases reported by location and time. • Additionally, to the suggestion above, it is better to have a collaboration with the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG). Since the Philippines does not have a national hotline, another way to help the authorities know the safety of their people is to know the conditions they are protecting. Researchers suggest giving the reports according to the station to which they belong, so the authorities will know which places they should prioritize protecting. • The researchers only produce the prototype version of this research. The research would like to recommend to the future researchers to make a smaller size version of this research. • Integrate into the device’s system to have a default SOS message after pushing the device’s button for a longer period of time. This will indicate that the user is in danger in general. • Let the barangay sector be the first to use the device. This is to test the effectiveness and functionality of the device. |
