ABSTRACT: This study focuses on developing ForenSEEK, a game-based application designed to encourage Filipino young adults (18-30) to pursue careers in digital forensics or cybersecurity. The rise in cybercrime cases in the Philippines, mainly due to limited cybersecurity awareness, necessities the demand for these professions and innovative learning approaches. Unlike typical 2-dimensional (2D) games, ForenSEEK integrates Augmented Reality (AR) technology and a feedback mechanism for a more interactive and immersive learning experience in various cybercrime scenarios. Following the Agile Software Development Methodology, the study iteratively developed the study’s general and specific objectives. The game has implemented the 3 types of digital forensics (computer forensics, network forensics, and cloud forensics), along with an embedded Pre-Test and Post-Test using Unity Engine, which is widely known for creating 2D and 3D games. A Paired T-test of 150 young adults (113 students and 37 employees) showed significant knowledge improvement, increasing from 54% (Pre-Test) to 77% (Post-Test) after playing. ForenSEEK also featured 3 storyline cases that integrated 5 common digital forensic techniques (imaging, network packet analysis, file recovery and analysis, memory analysis, and steganography detection), which incorporated AR technology to enhance immersion in finding clues to solve digital forensic challenges. Additionally, a feedback module was included to provide players with insights into their performance based on completion rates and time spent. Overall, the study successfully met its primary objective, demonstrating that ForenSEEK not only bridges the cybersecurity gap by innovating how cybersecurity is learned but also enhances the learning experience through feedback. |
