General note Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of Depression, Anxiety and Stress on Burnout among selected nurses in a tertiary government hospital in Quezon City that will serve as a basis or aide in the development of a stress management program. The researcher utilized a descriptive correlational quantitative design in this study to describe the relationship between variables without establishing a causal link. Homogenous purposive sampling was used as the method in choosing the respondents on this study mainly because inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to check the eligibility of the participants.

The findings revealed that majority of the respondents are female (72.37%), under the age group of 26 to 30 years old (38.16%), single (53.95%), commonly assigned at the Male and Female Traction Ward (35.53%) and with the length of service of 3 years to 5 years (46.05%). Majority of the respondents have normal level of depression (48.68%) and normal level of anxiety (63.16%) however, the level of stress among selected nurses is under the mild category (42.11%). In terms of burnout, majority of the respondents have frequently experienced personal burnout (51.32%) and work-related burnout (44.74%). On the other hand, majority of the participants sometimes experiences client-related burnout (43.42%). To determine the correlation of variables, Cramer's V (Test of correlation) was utilized.

The findings show significant relationship between depression and work-related and client-related burnout. Significant relationship was also observed in anxiety to work-related and client-related burnout. Finally, stress has been found to be significantly correlated to personal, work-related, and client-related burnout.

With this at hand, Healthcare leaders should have increased awareness between the relationship of depression, anxiety, and stress on burnout among nurses and enforce staff development programs or strategies that will mitigate contributing factors to burnout among nurses.
