Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the perceptions of the different domains of the multigenerational workplace by the staff nurses of Pasig City Children's Hospital. The domains were the conflict between generations, patient safety view, relationships between generations, working as a multigenerational team, orientation to change, and work propensity and availability. The study also aimed to determine, the significant relationship between the demographic profile which includes sex, length of service, and generational cohorts, and the perceptions of the different domains of the multigenerational workplace. A quantitative descriptive design was used in the study. Employed the Multidimensional Nursing Generation Questionnaire" as the research instrument. The study group was composed of 116 nurses from Pasig City Children's Hospital. A purposive sampling technique was employed in the selection of respondents. Descriptive and inferential statistics utilizing the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) were used to compute and analyze the data.

The results revealed that the majority of the respondents were female, and mostly had a length of service of 5 years. It also revealed that most of the respondents are from Generation Y. It was noted that most of the respondents agreed or agreed strongly with the following statements: generation conceives nursing care in a different way; feel free to ask questions when something does not seem right; integration is better when working with colleagues with the same generation; nursing workforce works well to provide the best care for patients; acquiring new skills is important; they care about what they do in the workplace.

A significant relationship was found in one of the statements on the domain conflicts between generation and generation cohorts. Likewise, among patient safety views, sex, length of service, and generation cohorts. Similarly, a significant relationship was also found between a statement in the domain, relationships between generations, and generation cohort. An item in the domain; working as a multigenerational team also found an association between generation cohorts.

A staff development program was developed based on the significant relationships found and with some items that the researcher found deemed necessary to be addressed.

|
