| General note |
Anting-anting is a significant cultural and historical element in Filipino culture, embodies the belief in amulets and talismans providing supernatural protection and luck. Shaped by indigenous beliefs, Spanish colonialism, syncretism, and resistance against oppression, this folk belief is part of a broader South-East Asian tradition of tribal jewelry, dating back to the early colonial period. This qualitative research, titled "Anting-anting in Quiapo: A Phenomenological Study of its Tourism Appeal as a Souvenir for Foreign Tourists," explores the tourism appeal of anting-anting as a distinctive souvenir in Quiapo, Manila. This traditional Filipino charm holds cultural and historical significance, prompting an inquiry into the motivations and experiences of foreign tourists engaging with it as a souvenir. Employing a phenomenological research design, the study incorporates in-depth interviews and participant observations to reveal subjective perspectives, meanings, and emotions linked to anting-anting. The investigation addresses demographic characteristics of foreign tourists, factors influencing purchasing behavior, the tourism appeal of anting-anting, and the cultural exchange between tourists and local vendors. The study advocates a phenomenological approach, emphasizing the unique and educational aspect of anting-anting as a conduit to deeper understanding of Philippine history, values, and craftsmanship. Utilizing convenience sampling, the study will select foreign tourists who have purchased or considered purchasing anting-anting souvenirs. Thematic analysis will interpret and analyze gathered data, contributing to traditional craftsmanship preservation and enriched tourism experiences. The research findings<br/>Tourism Appeal of Anting-anting as a Souvenir for Foreign Tourist will yield insights into anting-anting's cultural significance and tourism appeal, guiding strategies for its promotion as a unique souvenir and cultural attraction. |
