ABSTRACT:
The Hospitality Industry is an industry that offers a wide variety of jobs. There are certain skills and knowledge the need to be possessed in order to be able to have a long-term job in the industry mentioned. This study aims to understand the differences, similarities, advantages, disadvantages and other employability aspects that are commonly seen in the Hospitality Industry. The diversity and openness of the industry to accept individuals with various educational backgrounds is what the researchers have in cognizance. Undergraduate and graduate employees have different sets of skills, experiences and knowledge but these sets are all going to be useful and efficient when used in the right way and trained to improve. Hence, making every individual capable of giving service according to the company’s inclusions.
A qualitative research methodology was conducted to accumulate the answers given from the survey questionnaire containing questions that are vital for the study. Fifty employee respondents within the selected hotels and restaurants in the City of Manila were invited to be part of the research. The response rate was one hundred percent.
Analysis of the responses demonstrated that educational attainment is indeed a qualification when applying for a job in the Hospitality Industry but more than that, skills and experiences is the one that gives a better edge. The analysis of the responses also showed that despite having various educational backgrounds, individuals within the industry who were interviewed still were able to secure a job and become a long-term employee in their respective current companies. The researchers recommend that further study allows the Hospitality Industry to perform complete and fair investigation of the employees background in the field of work and the company’s potential benefit from having a new hire with company knowledge are advantages for both parties.

|
