ABSTRACT: One big issue that had been a problem of the designer or a simple person was to identify what type of font is used in any advertisement. Optical Character Recognition or OCR is a technology designed for automatic recognition of characters and letters by a scanner. The font and size used in the source document plays a very important role in OCR. Many font recognition algorithms nowadays are used but the most popular and accurate is WhatTheFont Algorithm. However, the proponents encountered the following problems with regards to the said algorithm. First is that the algorithm can't identify the letters that touches each other. If the inputted letter image are cursive or touches each other, the algorithm treats the letter as one character. For the algorithm treats the letter as one character. For the algorithm to recognize the image, letters should be spatially separated. Second Problem is that the algorithm treats letter j and I as 2 characters each. The algorithm recognizes the dots of j and I as another character side from the letter itself. Last is that the algorithm waste some memory space. The algorithm uses an array, so that it uses a fix/given size of the memory. For example, the letter A is used, and given array size and only 150 are used by the algorithm. So that the 100 free space were wasted. In order to solve the stated problems, the proponents suggested the following objectives: To be able to read the cursive fonts of the inputted text of the image is the first. Next is to be able to read the dots if i and j as one letter. And last is to use a link list to save memory space. The researches recommend people to use the enhanced application, and recommend those that are interested to further enhance the system, better improving the accuracy of recognition and other enhancements.
