Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study was made to identify the effects of lead (II) ions on the morphological characterisitcs (color and shape of cells) of Chlorella sorokiniana and also its growth rate. The sorption rate of the different concentration of lead (II) ion by Chlorella sorokiniana was also determined. Different concentrations of lead (II) ions (5.0 ppm, 10.0 ppm, and 20.0 ppm) were added to the BG - 11 nutrient media, then to the pure cultures of Chlorella sorokiniana. Different set - ups were made for the determination of growth rate and sorption rate. Samples were taken everyday for 10 days. The determination of growth rate was made by the dry weight method. The sorption rate was determined of growth rate was made by the dry weight method. The sorption rate was determined everyday by the use of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The changes in the morphology of the test specimen were identified after the 10 day duration of the study. The results have showed that there were changes in the morphology of Chlorella sorokiniana in terms of shape and color of cells as the Pb (II) ion concentration increased. The shape of cells went from spherical to an irregular shape, and the color from very rich green to a lighter one. One - way ANOVA and Tukey Test were used to determine if there is a significant difference between the growth and sorption rate among the different concentration o9f lead (II) Dunnett's Test was used to identify the presence of significant difference between the growth rate of the treated and untreated groups. There was a significant difference found in the growth rate among the treated groups. This was also rue when the growth rates of the treated and untreated groups were compared. There were no significant differences at the varying concentrations of Pb (II). Other editions:
