Three concentrations (50%,75%, 100%) of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) saponin extract were formulated for the test. The antimicrobial potential of saponin from the plant was tested using the filter paper disc assay. One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duhnnet's t-test using the SPSS 14.0 were used to determine if there were significant differences between the controls and the treatments and where the significant differences lie. The 75% and 100% concentration of saponin extract had visible zones of inhibition for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida utilis, but no in Aspergillus niger. There were significant differences Staphyloccus aureus, Candida utilis, and Aspergillus niger in the three concentrations and Escherichia coli also had significant difference with the 50% and 75% concentration against the positive control. Eschericia coli had no significant difference with the 100% concentration against the positive control. The passion fruit saponin extract exhibited partial antimicrobial activity only on Escherichia coili, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida utilis in the 100% concentration, but not in Aspergillus niger.
