Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study aimed to determine the social issues reflected in selected films of Marilou Diaz-Abaya. The researchers have chosen five of her films : Moral, Karnal, Sa PusodngDagat, BagongBuwan and Noon at Ngayon. They made use of content analysis as research design. They also came up with a set of criteria in which the presence of social issues would be based. The criteria are the synopsis of the selected films. Subject matter, theme, characters, setting and language. To come up with the result the researchers had several readings of the films. As a result, the researchers found out that the most prevalent social issue in Moral and Noon at Ngayon was homosexually, Karnal showed extra-marital sexual relationship, Sa PusodngDagat was the belief in folk superstitions and in BagongBuwan was the military operation against the MILF-supertitions and in BagongBuwan was the military operation against the MILF. They also found out that there were similar social issues during the eighties that persist until today. Similar problems like homesexuality was discussed in the films Moral and Noon at Ngayon, Extra-marital sexual relationship was seen in Moral, Karnal and Sa PusodngDagat, Abortion and prostitution was found in the film Sa PusodngDagat and Moral, Suicide and poverty was also tackled in Karnal and Sa PusodngDagat. Lastly, discrimination among women was seen in Karnal and Moral. This study proved that films really have the ability to mirror the society as several social issues were shown in selected films of Marilou Diaz-Abaya. Other editions:
