Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: The Banaue Rice Terraces is known to be the longest architectural project in history, as it was estimated to have taken 2,000 years to finish. Today, it is on the list of World Heritage in Danger because there are already signs that it is starting to degrade. The Ifugao tribe, being the guardians and cultivators of the Banaue Rice Terraces, is tasked to preserve and maintain this man-made wonder. However, some of the young Ifugaos are shifting their interest to tourism-oriented activities and other forms of livelihood. This is not a negative issue, yet it can be foreseen to have adverse effects on the rice terraces, as here is a big possibility that none of the Ifugao youth will take the responsibility of cultivating their farmlands. The centuries-old cultural heritage entrusted to the Ifugao youth is now being put into question, and if this condition continues, the end result might be the serious deterioration of the terraces.
