ABSTRACT: As of today, there are only a few studies conducted regarding komiks. In the recent years, there are numerous efforts in regaining the good status of the komiks industry. Some worked out while some did not. These reasons had led the researchers to conduct this study and to produce the video along the said study. The aim of this video production is to know the current status of the Philippine komiks industry. Specifically, it aims to know the industry's commercial viability. This video production tackles a brief history of komiks industry, problems that hinder the industry, the effectiveness of komiks as a communication tool and possible ways of regaining the industry's good status. Survey, interview schedules, and researches were done to generate the necessary data for the study and video documentary. The results showed that few people nowadays allot their time in reading komiks and are more interested in other forms of media such as television, internet and radio. One of the highlights of the study is that, majority of the readers prefer glossy komiks with a price range of Php 10-20. As well, the result also showed that making komiks is not financially rewarding for the komiks creators. With these results, the researchers therefore conclude that komiks is not commercially viable in Manila. The researchers recommend that komiks should have good stories, Komiks creators should also experiment more, continue the tren of making independent komiks and create competition among fellow creators. More advertising should also be done. As for the publishing companies, aside from focusing in publishing komiks with good stories they should also increase the compensation of komiks creators.
