ABSTRACT: Growing up is already difficult as it is, learning to navigate life, even with the wisdom and experience of both parents. But what if this foundation is not there? What if the rock that the house is built on is missing? For a lot of adolescents in Angeles City, Pampanga is the reality of the lives that they are living. The absence of a father figure already places a huge role in the development of children self-image. But now compound with the knowledge of the manner of your conception and the environment you are growing up in, how much more would these affect how you would view yourself? This paper explores how the four aspects: School, Friends, Family and the perception of the self in addition to the environment of Angeles City and the reason they were brought up in this world, can affect ones' self-image. A qualitative method study on 10 adolescents residing at Hadrian III, Angeles City, Pampanga revealed however in a rough situation can adapt and carry on with their lives. This paper describes how one researcher uses a qualitative research technique to better understand how these given situations can affect a person especially how they think of themselves whether in a positive or negative way. The results showed that these adolescents may have crisis in almost all the factors, live in an unhealthy environment and have a father that is nonexistent, as long as they have someone to lean on who mostly are their family and friends they can still adapt and have a positive outlook in life striving to be successful whatever life may bring them.
