A researcher-made interview guide was used to gather information from 12 male respondents of substance abuse admitted to a residential institution. The data were collected by conducting a face-to-face interview wherein the respondents shared their different experiences. Using phenomenological approach and content analysis, the researcher analyzed and interpreted the gathered findings. The results showed that the more adversities a respondent experienced, the greater the chance to bounce back and overcome it. Also, peer pressure is the prominent factor why a teenager can be exposed to substance abuse. The recommendation is for the parent to provide unconditional love and care and for the institution to create a task chart wherein the teenager can be exposed to substance abuse.
