ABSTRACT: This thesis discusses the results of a study conducted by the researchers to investigate the perception of first year accountancy students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila towards the introduction of Problem-Based Learning based on their comprehension, attention, and preference. Two blocks from first year were used to experience Problem-Based Learning by solving two ill-structured problems created specifically for their current lesson. The researchers designed a structured survey questionnaire to gather the necessary data from seventy (70) participating students within the university. The questionnaire contained thirty (30) 4-point Likert-scale questions which measured the perception of respondents based on their (1) Comprehension, (2) Attenttion, and (3) Preference. The results showed that introducing Problem-Based Learning to the first year accountancy students produced a positive effect on their comprehension, attention and preference. Also, the researchers have found that the demographic profile of the respondents did not have a significant effect on their perception towards Problem-Based Learning, with the exemption of secondary education to their preference. The results were further substantiated by grading the outputs produced by the students during the activity.
