ABSTRACT: This study is about the relation between the reading comprehension and the number of hours the senior students on social networking sites. It aim to know the effects of social networking sites. It aim to know the effects of social networking sites to the reading comprehension of students. The researchers wanted to know the social networking site/s the senior students engage in after class hours, the number of hours they spend in social networking sites, their reading comprehension level and the significant relationship between the number of hours spent on social networking sites to the reading comprehension level of the students. Further, the Descriptive Research was utilized in the study. Specially, the descriptive normative research. The research was conducted at Jose Abad Santos High in Binondo, Manila. In addition, this study focused on the senior students from the said school. Furthermore, the frequency, percentage and ranking, as well as the Likert scale were used in order to analyze the data gathered from both the survey questionnaire and the reading comprehension test. Moreso, the Pearson r and T-test was employed to test the relationship of the number of hours spent on social networking sites and the reading comprehension level of the selected senior students. Based on the data gathered, after class hours majority of the selected senior students spend most of their time doing their assignment using the social sites. The most used social networking site was Facebook. In addition, majority of the respondents spent almost 5 hours on social sites. Lastly, half of them passed the reading comprehension test given. There is no significant relationship between the number of hours spent on social networking sites and the reading comprehension level of the senior students of Jose Abad Santos High School.
