ABSTRACT: The study was conducted to compare the academic performance of varsity and non varsity students from the College of Physical Education Recreation and Sports of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in relation to their level of stress and sociability and study habits. The following problems and hypothesis were formulated in order to compare the Academic Performance, Measure of Stress and Study Habits of varsity and non varsity students. 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the following? a. Gender; b. Age; 2. What is the profile of varsity an non varsity students in terms of the results of the a. GWA b. Measure of stress; c. Sociability test; d. Study habits? 3. Is there a significant difference between the academic performance of varsity and non varsity students? 4. Is there a significant difference between the measures of stress of varsity and non varsity students? 5. Is there a significant difference between the study habits of varsity and non varsity students? 6. Is there a significant difference between the measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students? 7. Is there a significant relationship between the measures of stress and study habits of varsity and non varsity students? 8. Is there a significant relationship between measures of stress and measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students? 9. Is there a significant relationship between study habits and measures of sociability of varity and non varsity students? 10. Is there a significant relationship between academic performance and measures of stress of varsity and non varsity students? 11. Is there a significant relationship between academic performance and study habits of varsity and non varsity students? 12. Is there a significant relationship between academic performance and measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students? To answer the questions raised the following hypothesis were formulated: 1. There is no significant difference between the academic performance of varsity and non varsity students. 2. There is no significant difference between the measures of stress of varsity and non varsity students. 3. There is no significant difference between the study habits of varsity and non varsity students. 4. There is no significant difference between the measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students. 5. There is no significant relationship between the measures of stress and study habits and non varsity students. 6. There is no significant relationship between measures of stress and measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students. 7. There is no significant relationship between study habits and measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students. 8. There is no significant relationship between academic performance and measures of stress of varsity and non varsity students. 9. There is no significant relationship between academic performance and study habits of varsity and non varsity students. 10. There is no significant relationship between academic performance and measures of sociability of varsity and non varsity students. The respondents of this study were the students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. There were 16 varsity students coming from the College of Physical Education Recreation and Sports. The level of stress was measured through the Measure of Stress adapted from Geraldo and Formantes (2009), a 50 item test. The study habits of the respondents was also considered and is measured through the (FSSHA) Filipino Survey on Study Habits and Attitudes also adapted from Geraldo and Formantes (2009). The measure of Sociability of the respondents was also considered and adapted from Paulino and Calonzo (2009). The measure of Sociability of the respondents was also considered and adapted from Paulino and Calonzo(2009). In order to measure the respondents academic performance, the General Weighted Average (GWA) of the varsity and non varsity was also considered. The frequency count and percentage of the demographic profile were computed to give a general description of the students. The researchers used Y-Test of the results in the measure of stress, measure of sociability and study habits and attitudes of the students. The researchers used the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation, r, to find out if the result of Measure of Stress, Measure of Sociability and Filipino Survey on Study Habits and Attitudes taken by the varsity and non varsity students were related to each other and whether the Academic Performance of varsity and non varsity students are related to each of the test. T-Test for two independent samples was used to find out if the current General Weighted Average (GWA) of varsity and non varsity students differ from the General Weighted Average (GWA) of non varsity students. From the results of the computation, the following findings were obtained: 1.) a.) Out of 16 respondents, there were 8 male varsity students and 8 were females, It also showed that out of 36 respondents, there were 14 male non varsity students and 22 were females. b.) out of 16 respondents there were 6 varsity students whose age is 18. There were 5 varsity students whose age is 19, 2 students of 20 of age, 1 student of ages 21, 17 and 16. It also showed that out of 36 respondents, there were 9 non varsity students whose age is 19. There were 8 students of 20 of age, 6 students of ages 21 and 16, 5 students of 18 of age and 2 students of 17 of age. This clearly showed that students whose age is 18 had greater population for varsity students than the other varsity and non varsity students whose age is 19 had the higher population than the others. 2.) a. This clearly showed that measure of stress of varsity and non varsity students is not significant difference from each other. b.) This clearly showed that measure of sociability of varsity and non varsity students is not significant from each other. c.) This clearly showed that study habits of varsity and non varsity students is not significant difference from each implied other. 3.) This only implied that the Measure of Stress and Academic Performance of Varsity students had a significant relationship. 4.) This only implied that the Study Habits and Measures of Sociability of Non Varsity students had a significant relationship. 5.) The General Weighted Average (GWA) of varsity and non varsity had no significant difference to the General Weighted Average (GWA) of non varsity students. The results of this study showed that those varsity students have higher stress level spends lesser time studying. The researchers recommend that the varsity students should have proper time management and to allot time for relaxing so that they can have enough rest to avoid too much stress. In this manner, varsity students can also have enough time studying their lessons. Thus, varsity students can excel in class at the same time comply with their responsibility as varsity player. For the Future Researchers, the researchers recommend taking into consideration other factors that could also contribute to the academic performance of the varsity and non varsity students such as goal orientation and other respondent's demographic profile such as course, year level, etc....
