ABSTRACT: Manila was well on its way to prosperity until ennui and politics entered and debame the daily problem. Landmarks have been the living witness on the history of the city. Admittedly enough parks and plazas assumed privotal role in the history of the past and the visions of the future. They were mute witnesses the shaped national community and instrumental in the pursuit of progress and development of man's habitat, crossroads of mobility, showcases arts, commence and culture, reflection of our collective sentiments, devotion, urbanity and endeavors. Squatters and improper settlers started occupying them, using them as their homes creating small communities, never thinking that such places hold a significant value in the history of the city. Desecration was so rampant in the city to the extent that most landmarks were used as backyard, resting places, and toilettes. Along with this criminality has been on an exponential on the barangays that neighbor the landmarks (Atienza, 2004) The main concern of the study is the assessment of the landmarks in District V, Manila. Distrcit V holds the most number of landmarks in the city. The study specifically tires to assess the landmarks in the following aspects, preservation, maintenance and restoration. The study also tries to identify the offices involved in preserving, maintaining and restoring of the landmarks and their assigned responsibilities. By doing so, the researcher would also identify the problems and solutions that could solve recurring and future dilemmas that the landmarks may encounter. The study is aimed to better the preservation, maintenance and restoration of the landmarks. The research aims to solicit change for the management of the landmarks. In so doing, a domino effect that would affect society can took place.
