Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study analysed the print reportage ( or presentation of news) of the leading broadsheets of the Maguindanao massacre. The researchers studied and analysed the news stories (published for the last weeks of Novemebr 2009 up to December 2010) of the major broadsheets of the country, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Philippine Star. Results showed that the two leading broadsheets have different treatment on the news stories when it comes to the physical characteristics but similar in terms of the content. The physical characteristics of the news story were determined by its placement (whether in the front page or in the inside pages of the publication), length in terms of column-inch and the inclusion of illustrations. Meanwhile, the content of the news were determined through the news category, generation, slant and reportage (whether it is positive, negative or neutral). In addition, findings also revealed that the two newspapers had given focus and continued reportage on the Maguindanao massacre. Other editions:
