Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: Removal of metal ions (Cu2+, Cr3+) from aqueous solution was studied using absorbent prepared from corncobs. Modification process included base treatment, washing with water and phosphorylation. FTIR was used for functional group identification and AAS for determination of equilibrium concentration of metals. Experiment was conducted over varying concentration range (1mg/L to 60mg/L) at room temperature. The equilibrium data were fitted into two adsorption isotherm equations: Langmuir and Freundlich. Based on their corresponding correlation values, result showed that the adsorption of both modified and non-modified corncobs was ideal by following the Langmuir Equation. Kinetic orders of the process were also determined to predict the adsorption behaviour of the system. Initial concentrations, equilibrium concentration and temperature served as functions of the kinetic order. It was shown that all adsorption process followed pseudo-second order kinetics. The effectiveness of modified corncobs in removing metals was reported by determining its maximum adsorption capacity. Comparison between modified and non-modified adsorbents was done by using two-way ANOVA and t-test. Other editions:
