ABSTRACT: Laboratory hands-on activities have been and still are an essential part of every Biology class. Different skills of students are built and enhanced in every laboratory activity. However, there are some factors that limit this. The government is one factor. Equipments and devices are provided to public schools, however, some of the schools were not given this opportunity. Another factor was that those schools which were provided with such facilities do not use it. The Filipino students do not benefit from what is freely given to them for their development. For most high school Biology students, laboratory hands-on may be possible unfortunately, the school itself choose those students to give this privilege to. They only choose those high sections and give them the opportunity to have hands-on laboratory hands-on activities. Through this study, the researchers will answer these questions: Was there a significant difference between the performance of high school Biology students with laboratory hands-on activities and students without laboratory hands-on activities? Will there be a great difference in the distribution of scores between the students with laboratory hands-on activities and students who do no have laboratory hands-on activities? Does laboratory hands-on activities have a significant effect on the performance of high school Biology students? What is the effect on the students. The researchers came up with the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the performance of high schools Biology students with laboratory hands-on activities and students with no laboratory hands-on activities. And the other hypotheses are There is a significant difference between the performance of high school Biology students with laboratory hands-on activities and students without laboratory hands-on activities. The students with laboratory hands-on activities. There is a great difference in the distribution of scores of students with laboratory hands-on activities and students who do not have laboratory hands-on activities. The laboratory hands-on activities have a significant effect on the performance of high school Biology students. Based on the results gathered by the researchers, the students who have laboratory hands-on activities have a bigger mean of scores than those who do not have laboratory hands-on activities. In the first part of the test, the students manipulative skills were tested. Based on the results gathered, the students who have laboratory hands-on activities. Also, there was a great difference in the distribution of scores between the students with laboratory hands-on activities and students without laboratory hands-on activities. As a conclusion, the researchers found out that there was a significant difference between the performance of High School Biology students with laboratory hands-on activities and students without laboratory hands-on activities. Moreover, the students with laboratory hands-on activities. Also, a great difference in distribution of scores between the students with laboratory hands-on activities and those students with none were obtained from the study showing the effect of laboratory hands-on activities on the performance of students. Laboratory hands-on activities are essential part of a biology class. Thus, conducting these activities will help the student to have better performance in their laboratory classes. The researchers recommend that further studies should be done to come up with a more reliable data consider this problem in Science classes. Both the government and school institutions should work together in order to eliminate poor quality of education in the Philippines. These two must work hand in hand because they are the ones responsible for the Filipino students development. The teachers should also play their roles well in their respective science laboratory classes. If they implement hands-on laboratory hands-on activities, the students would develop better than those students of today.;Undergraduate Thesis (BSE major in Biology) Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 2007. 56
